Fairmont Royal York

TORONTO

Our vision for the Fairmont Royal York lies in the delicate layering of histories. Completed at the latter end of the Art Deco movement, the property was a gilded embodiment of understated elegance. With the reformulation of Fairmont Gold, we created public spaces and guestrooms that nod to the building’s history while speaking to the timelessness of the brand through a contemporary and elevated lens. The design alludes to the removal of a patina and the revelation of something majestic and elegant. European influences are woven throughout, subtly tapping into Canada’s English and French heritage.

A gilded embodiment of understated elegance.

Our design not only speaks to Fairmont’s history but also the new generation of business and leisure travelers who expect more from the hotels they visit. Every space is designed to make a bold visual statement. We wanted the design of the guestrooms and lounge spaces to speak to the art deco references of the original Fairmont York hotel. Abstract forms and geometrics are punctuated by gilded lines and textured surfaces, while soft textures and clean lines converge. All the design elements are layered, tantalizing the eyes and creating a sense of unveiling for the guest.

Every design moment of the spaces reveals a story that is radiant, fresh, and true to its roots.

Champalimaud Design created guestrooms and suites with a high-end residential aesthetic. Punchy art-deco geometrics, statement furniture and reflective furnishings and fixtures like stylized doorknobs and headboards honor the timelessness of the hotel while pushing it forward. From the art deco-inspired bathroom featuring large walk-in showers, soaking tubs, double sinks, large dressing areas and wardrobes, to the thoughtfully curated artwork, every design moment of the spaces reveal a story that is radiant, fresh, and true to its roots.
