Vail Residence
VAIL, COLORADO
This ski-in-ski-out chalet on the side of Eagle’s Nest in Vail, Colorado is a spectacular and imposing structure tucked onto the side of the mountain with endless views up and down the slopes. The interior is nearly entirely paneled with exotic Koa wood, providing an inescapable sense of grandeur and elegance. The scale of the rooms is large with soaring ceilings including a double height living room. Our challenge was to harness this opulence and create intimate spaces for the family to relax.

The light changed dramatically through the seasons – it reflected off the snow in the winter and pulled the warmth out of all colors and bounced in brown reflection in the summer. Because of the desire to create a pleasing palette throughout the year, we designed many bespoke fabrics and rugs to flow through the spaces.
